MenStyleFashion -How To Develop Your Personal Style
When looking for style inspiration, we always have someone in our mind. We tend to somehow copy our favourite celebrity’s personal style or we follow a certain fashion icon. And then we ask, “how can I become like them?”, the answer to that is, just don’t.
If you want to know how you can develop your personal style, you need to understand that you have to be yourself. Creating a personal style means that you will stand out from the rest and if you try to recreate someone else’s style or literally become someone else, you’ll be labelled as unoriginal. From Steve McQueen to David Beckham, you can also have your own way of dressing just like them that can emphasize your aesthetic ideals and express your public persona.
So if you want to know how you can have your own personal style, then just keep on reading.
Why do I need to have my own signature style?
It shows that you have a substantial amount of self-knowledge. It conveys that you know what you’re trying to communicate. It tells that you are comfortable with who you are and what you are wearing.
What’s your body type/size?
You have to be knowledgeable about what your body type is and know how you can use certain styles and clothing to flatter your best features. There are specific styles that look better for some shapes than yours. It’s important that you are comfortable but try not to convince yourself that you should be able to wear everything.
Tip #2: What’s your social environment?
You need to dress according to your lifestyle. If you’re into rugged styles and you are riding your car with big dirt-covered wheels, then a suit-and-tie wardrobe is inapplicable to you! Obviously, if you live a cowboy lifestyle, a jeans and boots outfit is more suited for you.
You may want to keep your job in mind always. It’s useless because no matter how much you love your style and you’re getting some fun from it, you need to remember the job that you have.
If your job requires a suit and tie everyday and workplace has this conservative mood, you may play a little with your style! You can display some flashes of colour in the choice of ties, pocket squares, socks, and soft patterns in your suit.
Do you have fashion staples in your wardrobe?
Let’s get down with the basics, look into your closet and check if you have the following:
Chinos in neutral colours Knitted sweaters Plain white tee Oxford button-up shirt Decent pairs of jocks and socks
Now that you’re with some of the staples that you might want to have, next thing to consider is the colours. You may want to keep your colours of choice in neutrals such as black, white, grey, brown, and navy.
But if you want to pop some colours in your clothes, you can opt for darker tones in yellow, greens, reds, or pastels if you want something lighter, or spring-time looks. Don’t be too extra with colours, simplicity is still the best. You may use one piece of clothing to be the feature.
The technique here is learning how to colour block, you may pile full, patternless hues of colours into one outfit. If you have a black tee, you can wear it under a navy blazer, combined with chinos can be solid too! It’s full of life and easily stylish.
Do have a favourite style icon?
Men love to follow certain celebrities or style icons for getting Instagram OOTD outfits, it may also help you if you do the same. It will be a big help to check in with the famous and affluent people and see their approach when it comes to style. We are referring to those fashional actors, stylish sportsmen, and some luxury designers.
Just choose one or two celebrity gents that’s close by similar to your physical look or taste, and from there you may start to get some inspiration. But what we’re trying to say is not to literally copy their look, because it will just make things complicated.
Instead, you may reinterpret the way you favourite actor styles his night-time suit versus his daytime blazer and chinos. You can also take a look at the pieces he wears when he’s not working, whether he’s at a local bar or in the airport. You’ll notice that these best-dressed celebs try to maintain their styles in simple and well-fitted on different occasions.
Do you love what you’re wearing?
It will never be comfortable for a person to wear an outfit that’s selected for him and not by him, right? It’s normal that being fashionable may come from inspirations you get from looking to others. Avoid clothes that you don’t love and feel ridiculous about even if everyone is wearing them.
Remember that the best outfit and personal style will never truly stylish without complete confidence in your choices.
