Makeup Artist Transforms Himself Into Daenerys Targaryen of ‘Game of Thrones’: Video
With Game of Thrones infiltrating just about every aspect of our lives (Makeup! Oreos! Scotch whiskey!), it should come as little surprise that the characters from the HBO mega-series are some of the most widely cosplayed in the history of everything. For all the getups we never asked for — looking at you, Sexy Jon Snow costume — there’s beauty-inspo gold, like the Mother of Dragons’ iconic platinum mane.
Los Angeles-based makeup artist and YouTuber Ryan Potter is known for his incredible beauty transformations, and his recent one made us do a double take. With the help of his boyfriend, colorist and hairstylist Elijah Anderson, Potter morphed into Daenerys Targaryen — complete with braided platinum wig.
“In celebration of the new season today @elijahlahair helped me transform a $40 wig from amazon into somethin fit for a queeeeen,” he wrote in an Instagram post of Anderson weaving the long strands into delicate plaits worthy of Khaleesi. A few turns of a curling iron later, and voilà, Potter was ready to rule the Seven Kingdoms (or at least looked the part).
The character portrayed by actor Emilia Clarke is known for her alabaster complexion (I guess they’ve got sunscreen in Westeros), but Potter revealed that key products used in getting her glam included Tarte’s new Foundcealer, Fenty Beauty’s Diamond Bomb highlighter, and Bite Beauty’s Multistick in Mochi.
To make an already outstanding look even better, Anderson joined in on the fun by dressing up as Daenerys’s on-off lover (and, uh, nephew), Jon Snow. “This wasn’t meant to be a couples look but..he kinda looks like him so…” Potter wrote in another post of the pair’s selfie.
With only two episodes of the series left, we can’t think of a better way to celebrate than going all out and dressing up as your favorite character for a final viewing party. (Kit Harington, call me.)
