Beachwaver Co.’s New “Make Waves” Hair-Care Line Is Here

Back in 2013 (it feels like yesterday, right?), hairstylist and The Beachwaver Co. CEO and co-founder Sarah Potempa, along with her sisters and fellow co-founders, creative director Emily Potempa and brand president Erin Potempa Wall, launched a rotating curling iron called the Beachwaver. It took the hair-tool industry by storm and even won an Allure Best of Beauty award the same year. In the six years since, the brand’s added multiple sizes and colors of the tool, as well as hair accessories, brushes, and two hair products — a dry shampoo and heat protectant hairspray. Now, the sisters are taking hair care one step further with a new six-piece collection, called Make Waves.

Included in the range are two different shampoo and conditioner formulas: Good Vibes Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner with Coconut Milk and BRB Purple Shampoo and Conditioner with Shea Butter. Each contains something the brand calls HiX, an ingredient that works to strengthen your strands, while leaving behind shine.

“The hair will be nourished from the inside out with our innovative, patented glucose-derived hydrogen and ionic alpha bond multiplier,” says Sarah Potempa, who explained to Allure how the brand intends for the ingredient to work. “[It] penetrates the internal cortex of the hair to strengthen by rebuilding and multiplying the internal bonds of the hair follicle.”

There are also two styling products: Shubie Surf Beach Spray with Sea Kelp and Braid Balm Pre-Braid Prep. The latter is one of Potempa’s favorite products for detangling hair and creating frizz-free braids on clients including Busy Phillips, Lea Michele, Camila Cabello, and Reese Witherspoon. It can also help give those with straighter hair more defined waves when they take out the braids, especially after sleeping.

But that’s not all it does. “The cool thing about the Braid Balm is that it is an incredible treatment and curl enhancer so it can be used before a bun, braids, and directly on waves,” Potempa explains.

All the products have a fresh, clean scent that Beachwaver turned into an ethically-sourced fragrance as part of the B.Bungalow Fragrance Collection. Bondi Beach Day ($32-$68) has a blend of Caribbean coconut and Mexican vanilla orchids. It’s the first scent from the brand but sure not to be the last.

The clean, vegan line features phthalate-free, curbside recyclable bottles — part of Beachwaver’s focus on sustainability. “We have an opportunity and a responsibility to create high-quality sustainable products,” says Potempa. “We are all part of the same Earth so we need to think globally and consciously about the entire process, from ingredients to sourcing supply chain to packaging.”
